Come and discover the fun,
friendship, and power of Girl Scouts by exploring the option of sending
your daughters to one of Girl Scouts Treasure Trails Council Summer
Camps.
Girl Scouts Treasure Trails Council wishes to offer your daughter a safe
and secure environment staffed by well-trained and seasoned camp staff
that have a desire and ability to work with girls.
Join us for a summer of fun! Whether it is at Timbercrest Girl Scout Camp
or at one of the many community Day Camps! There is so much to do, but
take the time to discover the wonders of nature, the magic of new
friendships, and discover the joys of camping! Financial support is
available to girls registered with Girl Scouts Treasure Trails Council.
The Council desires that all girls have an opportunity to attend camp.
Proceeds from the cookie program and special contributions are used to
grant assistance to those who would not otherwise be able to attend.
Partial support may be requested. Non-members are not eligible to apply
for assistance.
Staff - The staff is trained in topics such as
age characteristics, values, Girl Scout ways, and emergency procedures, 1st
Aid/CPR, and child development. A minimum of two counselors are with the
girls at all times during resident camp, counselors will reside in a
counselor cabin within each girl cabin unit (of 5 cabins). Besides the camp
director, there is the camp cook and the other periodic support staff to run
the Trading Post Store. The camp staff is forbidden from accepting
gratuities from campers and parents.
Registration - Registration runs March 1 - May 15. Registration is on a first come first serve basis. Upon registration a parent letter will be sent indicating the time to report to camp, what to bring, and other pertinent information. Transportation is the parents responsibility. It is very important to pick up and drop off your Girl Scout on time as there will be no supervision before or after the camp session.
First Day at Camp - Upon arrival at camp, you and your daughter will check in at our registration table, place her bags with the other girls' in her unit and will be introduced to her counselors and unit mates. At that time we will review with you the check in and out procedure for camp, turn in her Trading Post money, turn over all medications, answer last minutes questions and say good bye. Medications must be in their original containers and labeled clearly with the following information: Camper's Name, Name of Medication, Dosage and Doctor's Name. Your daughter will meet her Unit Counselor and be shown to her cabin unit to get settled in and meet the rest of her cabin unit members. Once the unit is all checked in the girls will then join in camp activities!
Camp Tours - Tours of camps are available by your daughter AFTER her camp session has ended. This makes it much more personal as she can show you where she slept, where she did something for the first time or where she found that amazing rock. If you would like to visit the camp prior to your daughter's stay, we suggest attending one of the Camp Kickoffs held at our properties. These Camp Kickoffs are where volunteers and families such as yourself help prepare the camp for the upcoming season. All materials, sleeping arrangements (if desired) and some meals are provided at no charge to those helping at Camp Kickoff.
The camp schedule and cost for each is: To Be Determined for 2008 Season
Trading Post - Select camps will have a Trading Post (camp store) which will only be open at scheduled times during your daughter's stay with some souvenirs available for purchase. Any money the camper brings to camp should be turned over to the Camp Director at check-in for safekeeping. If Trading Post purchases are made, any remaining balance will be returned to the camper on her day of departure.
Insurance - Insurance is required for each girl and staff member attending Timbercrest camp. The cost is included in the camp fee. This is medical coverage for accident or illness contracted at camp. If your daughter has treatment at the clinic or hospital, you may receive a bill at home. Rest assured these will be paid by the Council's insurance company and need not be cause for concern to parents.
Special Equipment for Resident Camp -
Rain wear is a necessity. There are many mountain showers.
Bathing Suit.
Warm Jacket and enough bedding - The temperature at Timbercrest can be very warm during the day and turn cold at night! Timbercrest elevation is around 6,000 feet!
Hiking shoes - "well broken in " Campers do a lot of hiking
A second set of shoes
Extra Socks!
What are Kapers? - Each girl at camp will share the responsibilities involved in "camp keeping." Taken from the term "K.P.", each girl in the unit will have kapers to keep the living areas safe and clean. There are all-camp kapers, like the flag ceremony and helping in the lodge be setting tables and bringing food to and from the kitchen, that are also a part of the total camp experience.
Lost Articles - Girl Scouts Treasure Trails is not responsible for lost or stolen items belonging to campers or staff. Lost articles will be taken to the Service Center in Billings. If not claimed by October 1, all items will be give to charity.
Meals - Campers and staff eat well balanced meals, and treats are included. Staff members "head" each table to serve the food, make sure everyone is eating properly, and guide the conversation. If your daughter has food allergies, please verify that this information is noted on her medical form. We encourage all girls to abide by the "two-bite" rule...you have to try two-bites of all foods on the table (unless there is an allergy).
Letters from Home - Campers LOVE mail!! The unhappy camper is the
one who is turned away with "no mail today" at mail call. It is a good
idea to send mail at least 4 days in advance of camp to ensure its
arrival! Better yet, complete letters for each day of your
daughters stay and leave it with the Camp Director or her counselor in
one large envelope at check in. If you label the daily envelopes for specific
days, we will be sure to deliver on that day! Please be careful with
what you write to her. Don't write that her cat has died, her best
friend is moving, or with other worries from the home front. Also, don't
write to say how much fun you're having without her.
Mailing Address will be included in the confirmation letter.
Preparing for Camp - Your attitude toward the camping experience is equally as important as the experience at camp. Be sure that you are ready to have your child leave home, that you trust her to be on her own, and that you are not fearful of camping. Talk about camping as a happy adventure, being positive at all times. Try the following:
Talk about what to expect and look forward to in nature.
help her understand the use of the packing list, both in getting ready for camp and packing to come home. Throw in an extra garbage bags just in case thins do not pack as easily when she returns home.
Let your child make some decisions about what to take and what not to take to camp.
Assure her you will be there when her session ends.
Emphasize the fun she will have and the friends she will meet.
If you are going to do something special during the camp session, wait until se returns to tell her about your adventure. Wishing she could be somewhere special with you can cause incurable homesickness.
Phone for Emergencies - The parent confirmation letter you receive after registration will include contact numbers for emergencies.
